Crunchyroll was looking for a way to make their 2023 Anime Awards more accessible to anime fans across the world and looked to provide translations for up to seven different languages, all in real time.
Working with Digital Cinema Collective and our friends at Castle Point Technologies, LiveX was able to make that happen with the help of live translators and Virtual Video Control Room.
The final program featured livestreams in the following languages:
- Japanese
- English
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Portuguese
- Arabic
Since the show was taking place in Tokyo, the LiveX team spun up the cluster in the same region to keep the latencies as low as possible. Most of the workflow took place in VVCR Production Modules, where each was running a vMix session.
The entire workflow took place in the cloud which allowed LiveX staff to work together from our Green Bay facility and New York offices.
The main program was brought into each vMix session and then routed into the interpreter's Zoom meeting. A breakout room was created for each language and there were two interpreters for each language.
The team then pulled the translated audio from each breakout room into the corresponding vMix session. The original audio is then replaced with the translated audio and the new program feed is sent to VVCR. There the streams were routed and pushed to 15 different destinations.
