This year marked the 10th Annual Webcast of New Year's Eve in Times Square.
For this time around the sun we designed and built a 4k mobile unit. This was a very important maiden voyage and our team rose to the occasion. Until now, this show had been produced in a full broadcast truck. Being able to keep quality the same but using the tools that best fit the job was important to us.
This 24ft trailer is ready to use with a 20-input switcher, full playback, recording, live graphics, captioning and encoding. It comes equipped with Ursa Broadcast and Ursa Mini Broadcast cameras, ATEM CCU and Fujinon and Canon lens kits. The audio setup is helmed by a Soundcraft Vi1000 with 163 I/O, with AES, Dante, and MADI. The Moblie Unit also houses a ClearCom Eclipse HX PiCo for expansive production communication.
We leveraged the Live X MCR in Manhattan for our Encoding HQ again this year. Having a team there pushing live and monitoring each feed on a dedicated internet line keeps the stream safe.
With heavy rain for the full 6-hour broadcast, the conditions were some of the worst in the show's history. Even with cameras, audio equipment and engineering being put to the test, the broadcast was a success.
The Live X team filled every seat, from Director, to graphics and playback.
New Year's Eve in Times Square has the world watching and we were proud to have our new Mobile Unit share this moment live with over 5 million viewers.
