Live X provided the technical production of Vergecast Live at CES2017, the most anticipated live show at the Consumer Electronics Show this year.
CES is the biggest electronics show every year, held in 2.5 million square feet of convention space in Las Vegas. It hosts thousands of exhibitors, over 100,000 attendees, and most importantly, viewers watching streams from the comforts of their homes.
The Verge, a multimedia leader focused on technology and culture, had a vision of creating a special-edition, live talk show with their A-list tech editors and analysts introducing the hottest new products debuting at CES.
Vergecast CES2017 streamed three 90-minute episodes over the 4-day convention, via Twitter and SnappyTV, to do just that.
For Live X, key contributions included overall production delivery, staffing of major production roles, redundant bonded streaming, multi-distribution, and development and rollout of a custom broadcast graphics system.
As the technical producers, Live X provided all technology needed to stream the show live, including handheld and robotic cameras, mics and audio gear, signal routing, switchers, and streaming equipment, including Teradek Bond Pro encoders and the Core stream management system.
Most remarkably, Live X built a proprietary system to display onscreen graphics including topic banners, headlines, lower thirds, and breaking news. Broadcast graphics make a huge difference in how professional and sophisticated a stream can look, but standard playout systems are costly and often take considerable time to develop. The custom system Live X created, as an alternative to VizRT or Ross Xpression, gave Vergecast a great looking, flexible broadcast graphics system, while saving the production significant time and money.
